The Truth REVEALED about Heartburn and Vinegar
Does Vinegar have any place in your heartburn food plan? The choice of vinegars for western consumers is varied, but western medics and paramedics suggest that only one of them is suitable for heartburn sufferers. Heartburn can be defined as the sensation in the region of the throat or the chest of burning, frequently with a bitter or sour taste. Heartburn may indicate gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Severe cases of GERD may also manifest themselves as problems in swallowing, asthma, reduction in weight and hoarseness. Neglect of GERD may degrade the impairment still further to a state known as Barrett’s esophagus with the danger of cancer of the esophagus as well. Even if people who are quite healthy can get occasional heartburn (but not more than once a week), chronic heartburn is a strong sign of GERD, or acid reflux as it is also known.
In a healthy organism, a ring-like muscle allows food and drink to pass one way into the stomach, but then shuts off any reverse flow of stomach contents. Certain factors, detailed below, can weaken this muscle, leaving stomach juices free to get back into the esophageal cavity (this is what we term acid reflux), doing internal damage and leading to heartburn. In medical jargon, this ring like muscle is the LES (lower esophageal sphincter), and the complaint is termed gastro esophageal reflux disease. Therefore it is the role of the LES as a valve of muscle to shut off the esophagus from the stomach.
There are both principal and secondary factors that contribute to GERD, as well as the complex interrelationships between them. Some of these factors are direct agents causing the condition; others worsen a condition that already exists. These contributing elements include:
1. Excess fabrication of stomach acid. In many cases (often because of inherited characteristics), the human body may over-produce stomach acid that then overflows back up to damage the esophageal cells.
2. Over-multiplication of Candida, the single cell fungus usually found in the human body (where it prefers the genital and intestinal areas) in quantities that are symbiotically balanced by the rest of the natural flora in the body. In certain cases, Candida can demonstrate explosive growth, overpowering the immune system and generating over 79 diverse toxins that can impinge on the body in various ways including that of GERD.
It is a proven fact, in addition to the above, that a number of foods make the situation worse and stimulate Candida overgrowth. Together with white flour and sugar (and other refined carbohydrates of this type), these dangerous foods include most kinds of vinegar, including balsamic, wine, white and malt vinegar. The reason is that all these vinegars are acid-forming when consumed, thus pushing up the degree of acidity of the intestines and the blood. This then provokes acid reflux and worsens its level of severity.
However, organic apple cider vinegar is the exception. Not only can it alkalize your intestinal tract (it is the only vinegar to do this), but it can also considerably reduce inflammation of the esophagus and keep Candida down to the proper levels.
As an important remark, heartburn does not however lend itself to instantaneous solutions because it is triggered by a combination of many underlying causes. The only reliable way to inverse the tendency and prevent heartburn from recurring is to treat the inner environment that is responsible in the first place for acid reflux happening.
The one solution that will bring the required results is an all-natural, holistic one.
